INNOVATIVE EDUCATION INITIATIVES
Office of Acceleration & Innovation constantly seeks new and innovative ways to engage students and improve academic achievement. Through our Magnet School Assistance program , we have revised or created 12 schools in the past 6 years.

New Magnet Programs
In 2018/2019, both schools are enrolling based on magnet school enrollment lottery, designed to meet the Office of Civil Rights and US Department of Education approved desegregation targets. In 2018/2019, CODE will serve students in grades K-5, while LA POLY will serve grades 6-8.
Our new magnet schools began their operation in 2017/2018 school year as follows:

- KIndergarten - open magnet enrollment with sibling preference for students attending CODE
- Grades 1-5 - option for enrollment in this grades was first given to current students. Additional open seats were entered in the magnet lottery.
- Grade 5 - open magnet enrollment for 2 class units only
- Grade 6 - open magnet enrollment, with sibling preference for Grade 7 and grade 8 Lake Alfred Addair current students
- Grade 7 - option for enrollment in this grades was first given to current students. Additional open seats were entered in the magnet lottery.
- Grade 8- traditional zoned enrollment based on PCSB school zone assignment
On October 1, 2016, the Office of Acceleration & Innovation received a $12 million grant, establishing three new magnet programs and significant improvement and revision of two existing magnet schools including:
- Establishment of Combee Academy of Design & Engineering (CoDE) K-5 by creating a new Magnet program replacing the traditionally zoned Combee Elementary School in Lakeland
- Establishment of Lake Alfred Polytech Academy 5-8 by creating a new Magnet program replacing the traditionally zoned Lake Alfred Addair Middle School in Lake Alfred
- Establishment of D. Jenkins Academy of Technology 6-8 by creating a new Magnet program replacing the choice school at Daniel Jenkins Academy in Haines City
- Revising the performing arts program to STEAM & Performing Arts at Rochelle School of the Arts K-8 in Lakeland
- Revising the STEM program to STEM infused International Baccalaureate (IB/PYP) at Brigham Academy K-5 in Winter Haven
